The inaugural 2008 ‘Lip Sync World Champs’ (LSWC) Champion is Daniel Cunningham aka ‘Marzi Panne’ (PIC BELOW) from Darwin, NT.

Now etched in Lip Sync folk law, ‘Marzi Pannes’ win was hard fort due to very stiff competition from fellow champions including: ‘Rock N Roll Rossco’ (QLD), ‘Preston’ (NSW), ‘Britney Beers’ (ACT), ‘Diva Di’ (SA), ‘Reefy’ (NT) & ‘Dave Kennedy’ (Ireland).
‘Marzi’s’ picture perfect performance of Whitney Huston’s ‘I will always love you’ gave him the slightest of edges over second placegetter ‘MC Loud’ (NZ) who performed MC Hammer ‘You can’t touch this’ with third place going to ‘The Outlaw Linzman’ (VIC) performing ‘The Devil went down to Georgia’ by the Charles Daniels Band.
Competitors put on an unforgettable show performing countless outrageous antics to impress the judges and the large appreciative audience.
The competition was open to solo, duo & group performances however only solo artists had the opportunity to be crowned the World Champion.
A brief overview of judging criteria includes precise or unique interpretation, showmanship, technique & interpretive dance/movement.
In short, the ‘LSWC’ is 'karaoke on caffeine' or a version of the 'Euro vision song contest without the singing' where contestants delve into the abyss of abstract performance art miming a musical performance (sing, interpretive dance, etc) to backing music.
For many, Lip Sync really all began when video killed the radio star & is a pilgrimage of sorts for those commemorating the 20th anniversary of the final episode of the inspirational iconic USA TV music show ‘Solid Gold’ in July 1988.
Regardless of its origins, Lip Sync is an art form & an intricate part of the entertainment industry utilised during film clip production, choreography, stage rehearsals, shopping centre & TV appearances & even Olympic Games opening ceremonies!
Lip Sync is used as often as proactive face cream by many artists including the pioneers of the art form ‘Milli Vanilli’, through to modern day disciple’s & alleged offenders such as ‘Ashley Simpson’ & ‘Fifty Cent’ and more recently to a certain extent by Lin Miaoke & Yang Peiyi at the 2008 Olympic Games.
